Cowboys WR Miles Austin signed his restricted free-agent tender Friday, with an eye on reaching a long-term agreement with the team before the start of the season.

Austin, who had a breakout season in 2009 with 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns along with a Pro Bowl invite, signed a one-year tender worth $3.168 million.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he'd like to lock up Austin with a long-term deal this year and has been discussing it with Austin's agent, David Dunn.

Austin had been languishing in a backup role until an injury to fellow WR Roy Williams in Week Five last season opened the door for a big splash in Kansas City, where he caught 10 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. From that point on, Austin became QB Tony Romo's go-to receiver along with TE Jason Witten.
