The Cowboys knew when they drafted WR Dez Bryant that they were getting a potential steal with the 24th pick in the draft, but also a player who came with serious questions. Most of those concerns arose in the form of maturity. But in light of Bryant's recent hamstring injury, there has been talk that the rookie hasn't been diligent about keeping himself in top shape since last playing in a game, last September for Oklahoma State. Bryant was visibly gassed at his first minicamp practices, though he later performed well the same weekend, prompting head coach Wade Phillips to gush about his rookie wideout. But the hamstring, while not a serious immediate concern, is the type of nagging injury that occurs more frequently in athletes who do not take care of their bodies as well as others. It should be made clear that no one with the Cowboys has expressed disappointment publicly in anything Bryant has or has not done. But it's believed he will have to work hard to maintain his conditioning if he's going to be an impact performer in his first season.
