The Texans and DT Earl Mitchell, a third-round pick from Arizona, have agreed on a contract, The Houston Chronicle and ESPN reported Wednesday. The contract is for four years and $3.42 million, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on his Twitter feed.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Mitchell notched 44 tackles in his senior season at Arizona. He recorded six sacks and had a pair of two-sack games.

In PFW's 2010 Draft Preview, personnel analyst Nolan Nawrocki wrote that Mitchell "has exceptional first-step quickness" and an "outstanding work ethic," but he "lacks bulk and anchor strength to handle the double-team and can be knocked off the ball, spun in place and controlled."

Last week, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Mitchell had been "very impressive" in organized team activities.

"He's going to help us and push some people up front," he said.

Mitchell will be the third Texans draft pick to sign, joining WR-RS Trindon Holliday and CB Sherrick McManis.
