When asked if the Vikings have two starting safeties, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said, "We think we do." Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson both had disappointing seasons in 2009, but they appear to be Frazier's top two on the depth chart right now. However, he said Jamarca Sanford and Husain Abdullah have a chance to push Williams and Johnson. "Nothing is engraved in stone at this point," Frazier said. "It's still competition." Of Sanford, Frazier said the team will give him equal reps at both strong and free safety, even though Sanford was strictly a strong safety as a rookie. "Those guys are in a lot of ways interchangeable, and so if someone goes down he's the third safety. He has to be able to play both spots." The plan right now is not to switch any of the corners to safety, "unless something drastic happens," Frazier said.
