Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously had speculated publicly that RB Marion Barber might be better suited in a reserve role, which made sense considering Barber’s performance last season and the emergence of Felix Jones once he was healthy. But at the owners’ meetings in Dallas, Jerry Jones hinted that Barber might remain the de facto starter. “I know this: He looked quicker,” Jones told the media. “I think that is going to make him even more effective. He’s just in great shape. He looks as good out here just in these initial practices as I’ve seen him look in his career. You could easily go from there and look at what his role might be, and it’d certainly be on par with anything he’s done.” That doesn’t mean the team is down on Felix Jones, but it does mean Barber will get every chance to keep his starting spot this summer. And what is perhaps of more importance is whether Barber ends up finishing games, which is when his power and hard running can wear down beat-up defenses.
