CB Aaron Ross had a tough 2009 season, missing the first eight games with injury, and upon his return he was asked to play safety because of the team's struggles at the position. During the process, Terrell Thomas grabbed Ross' starting CB spot and ran with it to have a strong season. Now, Ross returns to cornerback, but he'll have a difficult battle with Thomas on his hands. It's likely that the loser of that competition will end up being the nickel corner and still play a good deal. But you can't overlook the solid contributions of Bruce Johnson in the No. 3 role last season. The unheralded rookie free agent stepped up and played some excellent ball in that spot in '09 and has the competitive drive the coaches look for. Johnson won't go down easily fighting for a top-three CB spot, which puts the pressure on Ross to play like the player he was at times prior to his injury.
