Just six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL, Jets NT Kris Jenkins is hoping to return to the field for a mandatory June minicamp, which would be a surprisingly quick recovery. It can take up to 9-12 months for a player to return from such a severe injury. While the Jets' run defense actually improved without Jenkins last season, the team is excited to have him back, and he has made it clear that he thinks he can perform better than ever. Head coach Rex Ryan has challenged Jenkins and OT Damien Woody to lose weight before training camp, and Jenkins, who is reportedly weighing in at 390 pounds, is attempting to shed 30 pounds over the summer. While the 10th-year veteran appears to be progressing well in his recovery from surgery, the Jets have plenty of confidence in backup NT Sione Pouha, who filled in very well while Jenkins was sidelined last season.
