The 49ers announced late Thursday afternoon that they have signed sixth-round draft choice WR-RS Kyle Williams to a four-year contract. Williams, the son of Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams, is being counted on as a kick returner first and a slot receiver second by the Niners.
The 5-10, 186-pound Williams played in 41 games (15 starts) at Arizona State, totaling 109 receptions for 1,626 yards and 18 touchdowns, 74 punt returns for 768 yards and 31 kickoff returns for 709 yards for his career.
In PFW's 2010 Draft Preview, personnel analyst Nolan Nawrocki wrote that Williams’ “short-area quickness and burst stood out at the Texas vs. the Nation all-star game and should give him a chance to contribute similarly to Bengals WR Quan Cosby.”
