The Browns signed veteran PK Shaun Suisham and waived undrafted rookie PK Leigh Tiffin on Tuesday.

Suisham, 28, hit 18-of-21 field goals in 12 games for Washington last season. He was released after missing a 23-yard field goal vs. New Orleans in December. After Suisham's miss, the Saints drove down the field and scored a touchdown to send the game into overtime, where New Orleans prevailed 33-30. Suisham later signed with the Cowboys, and he connected on 2-of-3 regular-season field-goal attempts in Dallas as well as 3-of-5 field goals in the postseason.

The Browns' incumbent placekicker, Phil Dawson, missed the first day of the Browns' organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday. He has one year left on his contract. Browns general manager Tom Heckert told The Associated Press on Monday night that Dawson's contract wasn't the sole reason he wasn't at OTAs.

"I really don't want to get into it, but that's not the whole thing with him," Heckert said, according to the AP.

Dawson, 35, hit 17-of-19 field goals in 11 games last season. He missed five games with a calf injury, with now-Ravens PK Billy Cundiff filling in for him during that span. Dawson has been with the Browns since they began play in 1999.
