The Giants no longer plan to trade unsigned NT Barry Cofield, a league source told NFL.com Thursday.
The source said the Saints had offered a second-round draft choice to the Giants during the April draft, and the Giants had accepted. However, Cofield couldn't come to an agreement with New Orleans on a new contract, torpedoing the deal.
Although he still hasn't signed his restricted free-agent tender — he was tendered at the second-round level, which calls for a salary of $1.759 million — the Giants are no longer shopping him, according to the source.
Cofield has started all but two regular-season games over four seasons.
The Giants lost their other starting defensive tackle, Fred Robbins, to the Rams in free agency. They drafted DT Linval Joseph in the second round, and they have experienced tackles in Jay Alford, Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty.
