Texans SLB Brian Cushing, facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances, said Thursday said he did not "inject or ingest" any illegal substances.

"I would never do anything to cheat this game," Cushing said Thursday, according to the club's official Twitter feed.

Cushing tested positive for hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, a substance banned by the NFL which is sometimes used by steroid users who want to restart testosterone production. It is also used by women trying to become pregnant. According to The Houston Chronicle, Cushing said doctors told him that the substance can be introduced into the system by injection or can signal the presence of a tumor.

"I was tested in September, and I found out in October I had tested positive," he said, according to the Chronicle. "I played the rest of the season thinking I had tumors."

According to the Chronicle, Cushing said he would seek "medical help to find out what it happened and to keep it from happening again."
