It was a near lock that Jason Campbell would open the season as the Raiders' starting quarterback even before the release of JaMarcus Russell, and it's even more certain now that Russell has been sent packing. Head coach Tom Cable will likely continue to contend that the starting spot is open for competition, but Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye and Kyle Boller don't pose much of a threat to Campbell. Gradkowski played well when given an opportunity last season and is the only one who could conceivably get a chance to start. He's recovering from surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle but is expected to be ready well before training camp. Frye and Boller will likely be battling for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart. As other reports have indicated, the job is Campbell's, barring a horrendous preseason performance.
