Steelers WR Limas Sweed underwent surgery on his left Achilles tendon Monday, the team confirmed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. However, it did not disclose whether the tendon was torn or ruptured, and it provided no estimate on how long he will be out.

Sweed suffered the injury Sunday during a routine passing drill in the final day of a weekend minicamp.

The third-year receiver, a second-round pick in 2008, has been a major disappointment, with only seven receptions over two seasons. This injury could sideline him for a substantial period.
