The Redskins released five players Monday, including DL Anthony Montgomery, WRs Marko Mitchell and James Robinson and RBs Anthony Alridge and P.J. Hill.
Montgomery is the biggest name on the list, although his playing time has decreased each of the past two seasons and he wasn’t considered a great fit in the new 3-4 scheme.
Mitchell also comes as a mild surprise considering he was a player with some upside.
Alridge spent four weeks each on the Redskins’ active roster and practice squad in 2009 but did not see any action. He also previously played for head coach Mike Shanahan in Denver.
Hill was signed prior to last season’s finale and was inactive for the game. Robinson was signed to the practice squad last December, where he stayed for the season’s final four weeks.
