The Browns claimed CB DeAngelo Smith, who played briefly for them last season, off waivers from Detroit on Wednesday. They also waived DB Matterral Richardson.
Smith, a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2009 NFL draft, was initially claimed off waivers by Cleveland on Sept. 6 of last year. The Browns released him 10 days later. Smith (5-11, 198) signed with Detroit on Nov. 18 and played in the final seven games for the Lions, starting one and notching 16 tackles and defending one pass. The 23-year-old cornerback played collegiately at Cincinnati.
Richardson, 24, signed with the Browns' practice squad in December and signed a contract with the club in January.
