As expected, the Patriots released LB Adalius Thomas, who clashed with head coach Bill Belichick last season.

Thomas' productivity dropped off, as did his playing time. He told Boston-area media that the rift with Belichick began around Week One last season.

The Patriots drafted a linebacker, Jermaine Cunningham, who likely will take Thomas' spot on the depth chart.

Pass rush was an area of trouble last season, and it was something Thomas was expected to solve when he signed with the Patriots as a free agent prior to the 2007 season. But Thomas rarely was asked to rush the passer last season.
