Coming into this draft, I was not expecting the Cowboys to come away with a receiver and a linebacker with their first two picks.
But had you told me they’d land Dez Bryant and Sean Lee with those picks, I would have felt a lot better about it.
Bryant was one of the stories of the first day of the draft, a classic Jerry Jones coup. He has it all: pure talent, No. 1 WR ability and maturity questions. Sounds like a classic Cowboys pick to me. Keep him away from Deion, and the kid likely will be a star.
But don’t overlook Lee. Sure, that LB position is loaded in Dallas, but Lee will be a special-teams maven, he’ll fight his way onto the field any way he can and will be a factor in a few different spots.
The Cowboys appear to be having a great draft. Last year's draft just felt like a bust, as they traded back repeatedly, getting some potentially good, but not great, players. Bryant has star potential. Lee is going to make it, and I am guessing Wade Phillips really felt good about this kid when the choice was made.
What a difference a year makes.
