Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan will be put into a position to succeed immediately with the Titans. Let's count the ways.
For one thing, the Titans are in need of DE help after Kyle Vanden Bosch signed with Detroit in free agency, so playing time is there for the taking right off the bat.
Also, Morgan will receive excellent instruction from DL coach Jim Washburn, an outstanding teacher. Year after year, Washburn gets the most out of his players. Note that the best defensive end Washburn has ever coached, Jevon Kearse, was exceptionally productive as a rookie.
Read through Morgan's scouting report in PFW's 2010 Draft Guide and you'll see the following phrases: "Outstanding motor, energy and effort" … "strong, relentless" … "will wear defenses out with his great energy." You'll also see his productivity increased in each of his three seasons at Georgia Tech, ending with a 12½-sack season in 2009.
In short, there is plenty to like about this selection for Tennessee. And there are plenty of reasons for Morgan to like landing with the Titans.
