The Steelers acquired Buccaneers QB Byron Leftwich for a 2010 seventh-round pick on Tuesday, reported.

News of the trade comes as the Steelers await word on whether QB Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy. Roethlisberger was investigated and ultimately cleared of all charges by Georgia authorities last week in connection with an alleged sexual assault, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, appearing on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Monday, said that Roethlisberger has violated the personal-conduct policy.

"The issue here is with respect to a pattern of behavior and bad judgments," Goodell said.

Leftwich, 30, knows Bruce Arians' offense, having played the 2008 season with Pittsburgh. He played in five games for the Steelers in '08, completing 21-of-36 passes for 303 yards with two TDs and no interceptions.

Leftwich signed with Tampa Bay last offseason and started three games for the Buccaneers last season before losing his starting job.

The Steelers also have Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch on the roster at quarterback.
