The Rams remained busy on the DT front Tuesday, trading former first-round draft pick Adam Carriker to the Redskins and signing starting DT Clifton Ryan to a one-year tender offer one day after re-signing fellow DT Gary Gibson, who did not receive a tender from the team.

"We wish Adam and his family well as he continues his career in Washington," Rams GM Billy Devaney said.

In exchange for Carriker, the Rams swapped spots with the Redskins in the fifth round (moving from No. 163 to No. 135), relinquishing a pick they previously had obtained from the Eagles.

The Redskins are hoping Carriker, who has been plagued by injuries the past two seasons, will further fortify a defensive line that picked up another warm body in veteran Howard Green on Monday. Carriker was able to play in only nine games in 2008 and missed the entire ’09 campaign after suffering a serious shoulder injury.

"Adam is a guy who our staff is very familiar with. He is talented and has an incredible work ethic," Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said. "We feel he will fit in our scheme and will help us reach our defensive goals."

Ryan, who led Rams D-linemen in tackles with 60 (according to team statistics) and registered a team-high nine tackles for loss in ’09, was tendered at the second-round level and will make $1.684 million this coming season. His signing leaves OT Alex Barron and S O.J. Atogwe as the only unsigned Rams restricted free agents.
