The Bears announced Monday that restricted free-agent LB Nick Roach has signed his one-year tender offer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Roach, who started 15-of-16 games played in 2009 at strong-side linebacker (12 games) and middle linebacker (three games), is expected to battle newly re-signed Pisa Tinoisamoa for the starting SLB job in 2010.
Roach established career highs in tackles (82), tackles for losses (10), forced fumbles (three), sacks (two), fumble recoveries (one), pass breakups (four) and special-teams stops (nine) in ’09. Entering his fourth NFL season in 2010, he has started 24-of-33 career contests with 122 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, three forced fumbles, two sacks, one fumble recovery, five pass breakups and 21 special-teams stops.
Roach is undersized but has good strength and leverage and has proven to be adept at playing in space and slipping by blockers.
