Patriots PK Gostkowski signs RFA tender

The Boston Herald is reporting that Patriots PK Stephen Gostkowski signed his tender as a restricted free agent Saturday.

Gostkowski was tendered at the second-round level, meaning he will earn $1.759 million on his one-year deal in 2010.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL draft, Gostkowski qualified as a restricted free agent this offseason because 2010 is set to be played without a salary cap. Had there been an extension to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the salary cap was kept in place, Gostkowski would have qualifed for unrestricted free agency.

Gostkowski connected on 26-of-31 FG attempts in 2009, including a career-long 53-yarder.

Ravens backup QB Smith signs RFA tender

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Ravens backup QB Troy Smith has signed his tender as a restricted free agent. Smith, a former Heisman Trophy winner who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL draft, will earn $1.101 million in 2010.

Smith, who earlier in the offseason indicated that he would prefer to change teams in order to get a shot at a starting job, has appeared in 14 games in his three-year NFL career. In four games last season, Smith completed 5-of-9 passes for 24 yards with one interception.

Smith will back up Ravens starting QB Joe Flacco.
