In the following tables, we focus on each team's top five needs going into the draft. We also show where the team ranked last season in rushing and passing offense, run and pass defense and turnover differential. In addition, we list notable offseason additions and subtractions to the roster, and identify the offensive (OC) and defensive (DC) coordinators of the club (an asterisk indicates the coordinator is new in 2010).

AFC EAST

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Buffalo QB OT WR DL RB Have been without a franchise QB since Jim Kelly; a strong-armed passer is needed to cut the wind in Buffalo. Addressed the interior offensive line last year, but need at tackle is glaring. A threat opposite Lee Evans would boost the passing game, as second-rounder James Hardy was a nonfactor and is coming off an ACL tear. Scheme change to 3-4 and porous run defense point to needing help along the defensive line. Marshawn Lynch's future is in question.
Miami FS OLB NT TE WR Gibril Wilson's departure creates a void at free safety. Joey Porter's team-leading nine sacks will have to be replaced. Jason Ferguson is in his mid-30s, and a long-term answer to anchor the NT spot is a must. Could use more athletic ability at the TE position. Even with addition of WR Brandon Marshall, a reliable deep threat is needed with the team having traded Ted Ginn Jr.
New England FS OLB ILB TE WR Could take advantage of a deep safety class to form an athletic starting duo with Brandon Meriweather. Ranked in the bottom third in sacks, and a pass-rush threat off the edge has been missing. Jerod Mayo is a stalwart, but Gary Guyton is not ideal inside. Alge Crumpler is fine in the short term, but a young receiving threat is an option. Wes Welker is a question mark and Randy Moss is a free agent-to-be; the future must be considered.
N.Y. Jets DE OLB FS RB OG With Shaun Ellis approaching his mid-30s and Marques Douglas not certain to return, a talented five-technique would bolster the line. Vernon Gholston has been a colossal disappointment, and the OLB spot opposite Calvin Pace can be upgraded. Kerry Rhodes' playing style didn't jive with Rex Ryan's mentality, so a long-term solution at FS is needed. It's Shonn Greene's time, and an "L.T." revival is unlikely, so a young backup could be added. Both starting guards are north of 30, and depth could be added inside.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Baltimore CB DE DT TE WR Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb both ended the season on I.R., and a future starter could be an option. D-line depth took a hit when Justin Bannan departed via free agency, and Trevor Pryce and Kelly Gregg will be 35 and 34, respectively, this year; young, groomable talent can be added. Todd Heap has been a productive soldier, but the team could bring in an understudy. Landing Anquan Boldin immediately upgrades the passing game, but another weapon for Joe Flacco wouldn't hurt.
Cincinnati TE MLB S CB DL Injury devasted the TE position, and third-rounder Chase Coffman provided little return on investment. The prospect of plugging in a talented MLB between Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga will be tempting. Roy Williams is not a long-term solution at safety, and Chinedum Ndukwe can be upgraded. A nickel cornerback would bolster the pass defense while the team works on locking up Johnathan Joseph. Depth is needed along the defensive line, where the pass rush tailed off following Antwan Odom's injury.
Cleveland S QB WR CB RB Abram Elam and Mike Adams are not intimidating anyone on the back end, and the defense is in dire need of a playmaking leader. Jake Delhomme is a stopgap, as Mike Holmgren's move to acquire a franchise QB is a matter of when, not if. Hit on Mohamed Massquoi a year ago, but the league's worst passing team can still use more talent at the WR position. With division opponents improving their receiving groups over the winter, the Browns will have to be that much deeper at cornerback. Jerome Harrison came on strong the final three games of the season, but the team will take a hard look if a talented back slides.
Pittsburgh C OG CB DE NT Justin Hartwig has been serviceable at center, but there is no question it's a spot the team could upgrade. With Rashard Mendenhall coming off a promising sophomore season, a road-grading right guard would go a long way toward strengthening the run game. Ranked in the middle of the pack defending the pass, and the team is in search of a cornerback who could challenge William Gay. Tabbing Ziggy Hood a year ago was a start, but the veteran defensive front can use a continued infusion of young talent; Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton will be 33 and 34, respectively.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Houston FS CB RB DT WR Bernard Pollard was a find at strong safety last year, but the team has long been in search of a free safety with ball skills to impact the secondary. Have decent depth at cornerback but will be on the lookout for a cover man with starter-caliber ability. Steve Slaton regressed in his second season, and a dynamic back would make the offense scary. The defense needs more of a push up the middle and might consider a DT. A speedy receiver who could slot in behind Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter could also be an option.
Indianapolis OLT DT CB DE MLB Charlie Johnson performed admirably in place of the disappointing Tony Ugoh, but Peyton Manning is the franchise and a more dependable protector is required. New year, same need; the team is still searching for an interior defensive force. Undrafted free-agent CB Jacob Lacey struggled down the stretch last year, and the departures of Marlin Jackson and Tim Jennings create an area of need. A third DE to play in rotation is also a need. Gary Brackett is solid, but youth could be added behind him.
Jacksonville DE OLB S CB QB High picks Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves have not lived up to expectations, and the Jags managed a historically low sack total; addition of Aaron Kampman won't preclude adding a talented DE. An ordinary LB crew can be upgraded. Reggie Nelson's rookie season is looking like an aberration, and the team has had a good look at a handful of safety prospects in the Southeast. Derek Cox was a find, and they'll look to unearth another corner. They could do worse than David Garrard, but the roster needs a developmental QB prospect.
Tennessee DE CB LB WR RS Kyle Vanden Bosch was a valuable defensive part to lose, and the Titans will look to bring in a pass rusher off the edge. Depth at corner falls off after Cortland Finnegan. The addition of LB Will Witherspoon will help in the short term, but an eye on the future could bring an athletic player to groom. The passing game lagged behind "CJ2K," so another receiving threat could be added. Did not get much out of the return game a year ago; short fields would help Vince Young minimize mistakes.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Denver C WR ILB OG RB The Broncos plan to incorporate more power into their running game and have a dire need at center. With Brandon Marshall having been traded, a legitimate No. 1 or No. 2 receiver will be a target to aid the development of whoever takes the reins at quarterback. The departure of Andra Davis creates a need at ILB. Russ Hochstein and Chris Kuper are solid, if unspectacular, but a young interior blocker who fits the scheme would create competition. RB Knowshon Moreno did not make a dynamite impact, and the trading of Peyton Hillis means the team could use a power complement in the backfield.
Kansas City S OT ILB NT WR S DaJuan Morgan has not made the impact the team hoped for, and a security blanket is needed on the back end. Matt Cassel has been paired with Charlie Weis, and the next task is to keep him upright; adding a blind-side protector would enable Branden Albert to move to the right side. Derrick Johnson has fallen out of favor, and an ILB to challenge Demorrio Williams could be added. With recent lottery picks Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson in place, the team needs a true tackle to man the nose. You can bet Cassel and Weis will get another receiver to play with.
Oakland QB OT LB DT RB Time is quickly running out for JaMarcus Russell to avoid the "bust" label, and while Bruce Gradkowski is a bulldog, the team cannot ignore the long-term future of the QB position. The OT combination of Mario Williams (left) and Khalif Barnes (right) is not helping anyone in the organization sleep well, and a potential franchise protector would be hard to pass up. Help is needed at linebacker, as Thomas Howard is expected to be an unrestricted free agent next year and the run defense was porous. Depth is needed at DT behind Tommy Kelly. RB Justin Fargas was released and has yet to be replaced.
San Diego NT RB CB DE OT Jamal Williams was the prototype for a long time, and his departure creates a must-fill hole at nose tackle. The severing of ties with LaDainian Tomlinson leaves another significant void at running back. Antoine Cason has been elevated to a starting role, but the signing of veteran Nathan Vasher won't deter the team from grabbing another corner. Depth behind DE Luis Castillo also should be added. Right tackle is another area where the Bolts could look to upgrade, as Jeromey Clary is coming off an injury.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Dallas OT FS ILB DL WR Flozell Adams was jettisoned, and while the team believes in Doug Free, a young tackle with upside would be a welcome addition. Jerry Jones did not hesitate to pick S Roy Williams eighth overall out of Oklahoma in 2002, and this might be his next chance to infuse the secondary with a playmaker. An inside linebacker could be added to learn from Keith Brooking, who will be 35 this year. Depth is needed along the defensive front. WR Roy Williams has been disappointing, to say the least, and another receiver could be brought in to supplement the maturation of Miles Austin.
N.Y. Giants MLB DT CB OLB OL Antonio Pierce is gone, and Jonathan Goff is not viewed as the long-term solution in the middle. The loss of Fred Robbins is significant, and a young defensive tackle is needed to bolster the rotation of interior players. Injuries were too prevalent in the secondary, and depth could be added at corner. The team is lacking difference makers at linebacker. William Beatty is waiting in the wings, but another tackle with upside could be an option, as could a developmental guard.
Philadelphia FS DE OG/C CB QB The Eagles' plan to get younger began with the exit of Brian Dawkins and you have to think this draft will yield his long-term replacement. Despite the addition of Darryl Tapp, another pass rusher to pressure the edge opposite Trent Cole is desired. Gone is Shawn Andrews, and the team will be looking for a strong interior blocker. Plenty of picks allow them to add depth at cornerback. The Eagles have been scouting QB prospects heavily, and with the trade of Donovan McNabb, they could use a developmental type behind inexperienced Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick, each of whom is in the final year of his deal.
Washington OT OG S QB DT The Redskins cut a slew of veterans and are looking to add building blocks around Donovan McNabb, chief among their needs being a tackle to replace stalwart Chris Samuels. Help is also needed inside, as an aging offensive line will be in a state of transition. If the right safety is available, the prospect of teaming him with LaRon Landry will be a tempting scenario. The acquisition of McNabb, 33, will not preclude new head man Mike Shanahan from drafting a quarterback to develop. Albert Haynesworth appears to be a ticking time bomb, and depth could be added at defensive tackle.

Chicago FS SLB WR DL OL Lovie Smith's defense is dependent upon turnovers, but it doesn't have a safety with ball skills. Nick Roach was a practice-squad find but is the type of player good defenses look to replace. An average-at-best receiving corps could use another weapon at the disposal of Mike Martz and Jay Cutler. Alex Brown was not a sack artist, but he was consistent, and that can't be said for the rest of the Bears' defensive linemen. Cutler took a beating last year, and team could use competition at guard and tackle.
Detroit CB OL DL RB SS League's worst pass defense must address the secondary. Chris Houston was brought in, but the defense still needs a cover corner to match up with No. 1 receivers. The offensive line is respectable with the addition of Rob Sims but could stand to be upgraded with an elite talent. Quickness and athletic ability are lacking on the defensive line, and a penetrator could take the front to a different level. Starting RB Kevin Smith is coming off a torn ACL, and Maurice Morris is not a featured back. Team hit on Louis Delmas last year and could target his future running mate in the secondary.
Green Bay OT CB OLB SS RB Aaron Rodgers spent way too much time picking grass out of his facemask — the franchise passer needs a franchise protector at tackle. Charles Woodson and Al Harris will be 34 and 36, respectively, and a young cover man should be added. Team hit on Clay Matthews a year ago, and another pass rusher opposite him could make the defense suffocating. Atari Bigby is a hitter, but inconsistency could prompt the team to add competition at SS. Ryan Grant is a solid fit but isn't the type of back that would deter Packers from adding a dynamic runner behind him.
Minnesota QB CB RB S OLB Favre or no Favre, the team cannot ignore the future of the QB position. With Cedric Griffin coming off a torn ACL at season's end, a cornerback will be targeted, even after the signing of Lito Sheppard. The departure of Chester Taylor leaves a hole behind Adrian Peterson. If there was a weak link in the defense, it was at safety, which could stand to be upgraded. Depth is needed at outside linebacker.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Atlanta DE OLB OL TE CB A pass-rushing DE capable of providing what Jamaal Anderson hasn't remains a need. Mike Peterson is in his mid-30s, and a playmaker would fit nicely flanking Curtis Lofton. The offensive line is a blue-collar group but would benefit from an upgrade, perhaps at center or right tackle. A developmental TE could also be added. The addition of Dunta Robinson alleviates some concerns at CB, but better depth is needed.
Carolina WR DE CB QB DT Steve Smith's cries for help are telling, as the team needs another receiving threat. The departure of Julius Peppers speaks for itself, and team would be wise to stack another DE to develop along with Everette Brown. CBs Chris Gamble and Richard Marshall form a solid tandem, but depth could be added to keep pace with the Saints. Is Matt Moore the long-term solution at QB? The Panthers probably don't know, either. Team could use a difference-making DT.
New Orleans OLB DE DT FS QB The Saints and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams have survived with average play at outside linebacker, and this could be the year they identify a long-term solution on the weak side. Charles Grant is gone, and Alex Brown won't stand in the way of adding a pass-rush threat. Sedrick Ellis is poised for a breakout season, but he needs someone next to him capable of winning one-on-one battles. FS Darren Sharper was vital to the defense's success, and they'd like to bring him back — at their price. It's panic time if Drew Brees ever went down, so the team should add a developmental passer.
Tampa Bay DT WR DE SS CB The Bucs' last-ranked run defense is still working to find the next Warren Sapp and could be in position to do so this year. Josh Freeman showed promise as a rookie starter, but his top receiving options don't scare anyone. The defense's regression has been due in large part to pedestrian DE play; a pass rusher off the edge is a need. Sabby Piscitelli's struggles in coverage prompted the signing of Sean Jones, but neither is a long-term answer. Ronde Barber is 35 and past his prime.

  1 2 3 4 5 Notes
Arizona MLB OLT WR QB CB The loss of MLB Karlos Dansby is a tough pill to swallow, and his production will be hard to replace. Kurt Warner's quick release came in handy, as the Cardinals survived with lackluster play at OLT; stability is needed at the position. Even if Steve Breaston is ready to become a No. 2, Anquan Boldin's exit means the WR position needs to be replenished. Matt Leinart has shown nothing to inspire confidence in his long-term future, and Derek Anderson is the same guy we saw in Cleveland until he proves otherwise. Pass defense was not a strength, and better depth is needed at cornerback.
San Francisco ORT CB OLB QB SS Joe Staley's athletic ability has translated nicely on the left side, but the ORT spot is in need of an upgrade. Big contract did not prevent the team from benching CB Nate Clements last year, drawing attention to a major need. Mike Singletary sees upside in Ahmad Brooks, but Manny Lawson has not lived up to expectations, and more pass rush is needed from the OLBs. No. 1 QB Alex Smith has durability and confidence issues. SS Michael Lewis lacks range and has suffered concussions.
Seattle OT S DL RB CB Whether Walter Jones returns for another season or not, left tackle will be a priority. The secondary was picked apart most of the season, and a playmaker is needed at safety. DE Patrick Kerney has retired, and the defense is in desperate need of a consistent pass rush off the edge. Julius Jones is an NFL back, but Justin Forsett cannot carry the load, and a home-run hitter would add some punch to a running game that ranked in the bottom third of the league. Kelly Jennings has not lived up to his first-round billing, and the league's 30th-ranked pass defense needs to supplement Marcus Trufant at cornerback.
St. Louis QB DL WR DB OLB Picking first overall means you have more than five needs, but the Rams are in dire need of a quarterback on whom to rest its long-term hopes. Steve Spagnuolo is desperately seeking defensive linemen able to generate pressure, as the team's top three returning defensive ends combined for just 9½ sacks. Donnie Avery is not a legitimate No. 1 receiver, and there are too many question marks behind him. Defensive leader O.J. Atogwe is in limbo, and help is needed at corner and safety. LB David Vobora is a try-hard player, and Na'il Diggs is a stopgap; playmakers are needed at every level of the defense, including outside linebacker.
