The Indianapolis Star is reporting that key backup S Melvin Bullitt and starting DT Daniel Muir have signed one-year contracts with the Colts. As restricted free agents with three years of service, both players had been extended $1.684 million tenders by the Colts.

The Colts are now left with three restricted free agents unsigned, all of whom ended the ’09 season as starters — FS Antoine Bethea, DT Antonio Johnson and OLT Charlie Johnson. The three players can accept offer sheets from any NFL team until midnight on Friday. The Colts would have the right to match any offer. In the event they did not, the Colts would be compensated by receiving the signing team's first-round draft choice in the case of Bethea, and a second-round pick for either of the Johnsons. If no offer sheet is submitted on Bethea, Antonio Johnson or Charlie Johnson, their rights would revert to the Colts.

Bullitt did an excellent job replacing the injured Bob Sanders as the starting strong safety much of the ’09 season. Muir reshaped his body last offseason to better suit the Colts’ one-gap scheme and finished with 66 tackles, the best among Colts defensive linemen, according to team statistics.
