The 49ers today announced that projected starting OLG David Baas has signed the one-year contract he had previously been tendered.

Baas, who became a restricted free agent following the 2009 season, entered the offseason very determined to remain the starter at left guard. His ’09 campaign did not get off to the best start when he missed valuable time in training camp after tearing the plantar fascia in his left foot during a nutcracker drill. The injury led to Baas getting off to a poor start, but he showed great improvement as the season wore on.

The 6-4, 330-pound Baas was a second-round selection (33rd overall) by the 49ers in the ’05 draft. He has appeared in 76 career games with 38 starts, the last 25 of which came at left guard. Last season, Baas was named the 2009 recipient of the Bobb McKittrick Award, given to the 49ers offensive lineman who best represents courage, intensity and sacrifice as selected by his fellow offensive linemen.
