The Raiders have been linked to trade talks for Donovan McNabb, before he was sent to Washington, Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels and Redskins QB Jason Campbell, and some have speculated that Oakland will spend its first-round pick on Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen. Clearly the Raiders are in the market for a quarterback, but until a move is made, the competition between Bruce Gradkowski and JaMarcus Russell for the starting job will continue. Head coach Tom Cable announced the competition at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and showed his preference last season when he benched Russell for Gradkowski shortly after midseason. Yet, there is pressure from within the organization to give Russell another shot, even if he has yet to prove he deserves one. Gradkowski, who is recovering after tearing the MCL in both knees last season, is considered the favorite in the QB battle and Russell would need to show much improvement to pull off an upset.
