The Cardinals’ Web site revealed Wednesday that the team has agreed on a one-year deal with unrestricted free agent S Matt Ware. The site said an official announcement of Ware’s signing will be made later this week or early next week. Ware, who has spent the past four seasons in Arizona, is considered a key member of the Cardinals’ secondary.
Adept at playing in the team’s dime defense, Ware provides Adrian Wilson with added flexibility, enabling the Pro Bowl strong safety to move up to the line of scrimmage more frequently. Ware played in 11 games in 2009 with one start and was sorely missed after suffering a season-ending knee injury in December. Before joining the Cardinals, Ware spent two years with the Eagles.
