PK Jason Elam signed a one-day contract with the Broncos and retired as a member of the team Wednesday after spending the previous two seasons with the Falcons.

Elam, 40, played for the Broncos from 1993-2007 after Denver selected him in the third round of the ’93 draft.

The Falcons released Elam after Week 12 last season. He struggled to make accurate kicks and connected on 12-of-19 field-goal attempts in ’09.

Elam won two Super Bowls with the Broncos and made three Pro Bowls. He ranks fifth in NFL history with 1,983 points scored and he is tied with New Orleans' Tom Demsey for the longest field goal made in league history (63 yards).
