The Redskins announced Monday that they have signed free-agent CB Phillip Buchanon. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though multiple media outlets are reporting the deal is for one year.
Buchanon, 29, will be entering his ninth NFL season after originally joining the league as a first-round draft pick (No. 17 overall) of the Raiders in 2002. For his career, Buchanon has played in 105 games, with 76 starts, and has 18 interceptions, five of which he has returned for touchdowns. He also has returned 118 punts for 1,075 yards (9.1 avg.) and three TDs.
"We are very excited to add a veteran corner, such as Phillip, to our defensive backfield," Redskins executive vice president/head coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has had a lot of success in this league and brings with him the ability to create turnovers. He will be a big part of what we are trying to accomplish defensively in Washington."

Buchanon played the 2009 season with the Lions, starting 11 games and making 43 tackles with one interception and two forced fumbles. He also has played for the Texans and Buccaneers.
