On the first official day of their offseason conditioning program, the Bears signed three exclusive-rights free agents to contracts — LB Tim Shaw, RB Kahlil Bell and DT Matt Toeaina.
Shaw registered a club-record and league-leading 30 special-teams tackles in 15 games in the 2009 season and established himself as one of the league’s most productive special-teams performers. Bell, an undrafted rookie out of UCLA, displayed flashes after coming off the practice squad last season, especially with a 72-yard run on his first career carry, a Bears rookie record. Toeaina was the third-string nose tackle last season behind Anthony Adams and Marcus Harrison.
