Rookie could join competition for Raiders’ ORT spot

Khalif Barnes, who re-signed with the Raiders earlier this month, would be the team's starter at right tackle over Erik Pears if the season began today, head coach Tom Cable said at the owners meetings this week. However, it's believed that Oakland is seriously considering using its top pick on an offensive tackle. Cornell Green, who started 12 games at right tackle for the Raiders last season, hit free agency and has already signed with the Bills, leaving the spot open to competition. Some mock drafts, including PFW's most recent one, have the Raiders selecting Maryland OT Bruce Campbell, who had an impressive showing at the Combine, with the eighth overall pick. One of the team's primary goals this offseason is to put a more capable group of blockers in front of the quarterback. JaMarcus Russell created many of his own problems in recent years, but the offensive line's play didn't help him much.
