The Cardinals took care of business on a number of fronts Tuesday, with restricted free agent TE Ben Patrick’s signing of his one-year qualifying offer being the most noteworthy maneuver. Originally a seventh-round pick in the 2007 draft out of Delaware, Patrick played in nine games with seven starts last season and had 12 catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Patrick was suspended the first four games of the ’09 season for violating the league’s substance-abuse program.

The Cardinals also announced that FB Nehemiah Broughton had signed his exclusive rights contract, in addition to the re-signing of S Hamza Abdullah and the signing of WR Darren Mougey. Broughton was inactive for both of the Cardinals’ postseason games last season after signing with the team on Jan. 5, 2010. Abdullah played in one regular-season game and both postseason contests for the Cardinals after signing as a free agent late last December. Mougey, a former local high-school standout (Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz.) entered the NFL as a rookie free agent last year with the Falcons, who released him early last August.
