Jets S Eric Smith signed his tender late Thursday.
Smith, who was a restricted free agent, received a third-round tender and will be paid $1.176 million in 2010.
The fifth-year veteran is expected to compete with Brodney Pool for the starting spot at free safety, which opened up when the Jets traded Kerry Rhodes to the Cardinals earlier this month. Smith is also a key performer on special teams.
Smith made a career-high 48 tackles last season.
