The 49ers have traded QB Shaun Hill to the Lions for a seventh-round draft pick in 2011, the Sacramento Bee reports, citing a league source.

Hill, who had a 10-6 record as a starter with the Niners, became expendable when the Niners signed free-agent QB David Carr to compete with fellow former first-round draft pick Alex Smith for the team's starting QB job.

Hill, who was replaced as the Niners’ starting QB by Smith six games into the 2009 season, has a history with Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, who coached Hill in Minnesota. Linehan was also very familiar with Hill as the head coach with the Rams. Two years ago, Hill and the Niners swept the season series from Linehan’s Rams.
