Despite Tim Tebow's rock-star status in his hometown of Jacksonville, some Jaguars fans are coming to the realization that drafting the local hero to resurrect the slumbering fan base is not the answer. In another great example of the team's efforts to reach out to its fans and build excitement about the club, the Jaguars conducted the first fan phone forum between season-ticket holders and GM Gene Smith earlier this week. During the conference call, in which fans were given an opportunity to ask Smith questions about their team, a poll was conducted as to whether the Jaguars should draft Tebow. Fifty-five percent of the 800 participants voted against the idea. It appears that the fans are beginning to see what many draft experts have been saying for a long time: Despite Tebow's enormous success in college, there are major question marks about his mechanics and footwork (among other concerns). Smith ruled out drafting a quarterback in the first round but did not close the door on using a later pick on a signalcaller. "I would always look for a quarterback we could develop," Smith said, "but I'm not going to force it. Is it a position we'll look at in the draft? Yes, it is."
