The addition of ex-Eagle Will Witherspoon bolsters the club's options at outside linebacker with the future of longtime starting OLB Keith Bulluck undetermined after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in December and became an unrestricted free agent in March. David Thornton, the Titans' other starting outside linebacker, is coming off shoulder surgery and is entering the final year of his contract. The Titans are also high on second-year OLB Gerald McRath, who started five games as a rookie and notched 47 tackles. The Titans are set inside with MLB Stephen Tulloch, a restricted free agent who received a first-round tender from the club.

Witherspoon, 29, played in 11 regular-season games with the Eagles after being traded from the Rams last October. The Eagles released him last week.

"Going into next season, there are some questions to answer at the linebacker spot, and Will helps us answer some of those questions," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said in a release issued by the team. "He has been a quality starting linebacker in this league for a number of years and shown the ability to play all three spots. His final landing spot will be sorted out as the roster is formed, but I would expect him to be in the mix for us at outside linebacker."

The way we hear it, the signing of Witherspoon doesn't eliminate the possibility of Bulluck eventually re-signing with the club.
