The Texans agreed with Chiefs UFA OL Wade Smith on a four-year, $12 million contract on Wednesday, The Houston Chronicle reported.
Smith played the last two seasons with the Chiefs, appearing in 31 games with 16 starts. He primarily played right guard for Kansas City, but he also filled in at left tackle and center. Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told the Chronicle Smith has a chance to start at either guard or center for Houston.
In February, Texans owner Bob McNair identified the club's depth along the center of the offensive line as an area needing to be bolstered in the offseason.
