The 49ers have reached a contract agreement with QB David Carr, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger is reporting, quoting Carr's agent, Mike Sullivan.

The No. 1 overall draft choice by the Texans in 2002, Carr spent the past two seasons as Eli Manning's backup with the Giants. With Mike Singletary having declared Alex Smith as the Niners' starting quarterback for 2010, Carr may replace Shaun Hill as the Niners' backup QB.

Meanwhile, the Giants have invited former Colts QB Jim Sorgi for a workout Monday.
