On the heels of releasing CB Lito Sheppard, the Jets have acquired CB Antonio Cromartie from the Chargers in exchange for a 2011 third-round pick. The pick could escalate to a second-round pick if he reaches certain performance levels, according to reports.
The deal will give the Jets one of the top CB tandems in the leagues, with shutdown CB Darrelle Revis manning the other spot.
Cromartie, who is beginning the final year of a five-year, $12.5 million contract, has displayed his considerable football skills since San Diego drafted him 19th overall in the 2006 draft out of Florida State. However, the Chargers weren't always pleased with his actions on the field or off it.
Cornerback now becomes an area of need for the Chargers.
