The Lions have signed UFA WR Nate Burleson to a five-year, $25 million contract, with $11 million guaranteed, within hours of the 12:01 a.m. ET Friday start of the free-agent signing period.

Detroit had been looking for a wide receiver to pair with Calvin Johnson, who has been the subject of frequent double-teams by opponents, and Burleson, 28, caught 63 passes for 812 yards and three touchdowns with Seattle last season.

The Seahawks had been hoping to retain Burleson, who was their most productive receiver last season before an injury ended his season prematurely.

Burleson is being reunited with Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, who was the coordinator in Minnesota in 2003-04, Burleson's first two years in the league.
