After failing in their attempt to cut Joey Porter earlier this offseason, the Dolphins made it official on Friday, as Porter was released along with ILB Akin Ayodele.

Miami attempted to release Porter on Feb. 12, but the league ruled the move an invalid termination because it would have violated the salary cap. With no cap in the new league year, his release was allowed to be finalized on Friday.

Ayodele, 30, started 15 games last season and made 71 tackles. GM Jeff Ireland said upgrading at inside linebacker was a need for the team, and it becomes a greater one following the departure of Ayodele.
