The Saints trimmed two players from their roster Thursday and will cut another on Friday.
GM Mickey Loomis announced the team has released OG Jamar Nesbit and LB Mark Simoneau. New Orleans will cut DE Charles Grant on Friday.
Grant has finished the season on injured reserve in each of the past two seasons after suffering a triceps tear on two separate occasions. He signed a seven-year deal with $20 million guaranteed in 2007, but he has struggled to make a major impact since then. He hasn't had more than six sacks in a season since ’04.
Nesbit had been a starter for the Saints before being replaced in the lineup by Carl Nicks early in the ’08 campaign. Nesbit played in 13 games last season. Simoneau, 33, missed each of the last two seasons because of injury. Before hurting his back in ’08 and tearing his triceps in ’09, Simoneau started 29 games for New Orleans from 2006-07.
