Julius Peppers will be joined by one of his former teammates on the free-agent market this year.

The Panthers cut DT Damione Lewis on Thursday, according to reports. Lewis' contract wasn't set to expire until after the 2014 season.

Lewis, who is heading into his 10th NFL season, made 41 tackles and one-half sack in ’09. The 32-year-old played for the Rams in the first five seasons of his career before joining the Panthers. He became a regular starter for the Panthers in the past couple of years, but he has started seven games or fewer in six of his nine seasons.
