Chris Samuels, the Redskins’ six-time Pro Bowl tackle, will announce his retirement on Thursday following a serious neck injury last season.
Samuels, the No. 3 pick in the 1999 draft, has been a starter at left tackle since then but battled through injuries for much of his career.
New head coach Mike Shanahan said at the Indianapolis Combine that the offensive line was an area the team must improve, and it could be the direction the team goes with the No. 4 pick in the April draft.
After Samuels and ORG Randy Thomas went down last season, the Redskins’ O-line was in shambles.
