The Steelers announced Thursday morning that NT Casey Hampton has agreed to a three-year deal with the team that will keep him with the club through 2012. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the deal is worth more than $21 million.
"We are pleased to know that Casey Hampton will be a member of our team for years to come," Steelers President Art Rooney II said. "Casey has been an important member of our club for nearly a decade, and we hope that this contract will allow him to finish his career as a Pittsburgh Steeler."
Hampton, who turns 33 in early September, is a five-time Pro Bowler, including this past season when he recorded a career-high 2½ sacks and 42 tackles. He will be entering his 10th NFL season.
The deal beats the 4 p.m. EST Thursday deadline at which time the Steelers were reportedly prepared to place the franchise tag on Hampton if no new deal was finalized.
