The Seahawks further solidified their kicking ranks Wednesday when they placed the franchise tag on PK Olindo Mare. The 11-year veteran who kicked for both the Dolphins and Saints before taking over the PK duties in Seattle the last two years will receive a one-year guaranteed contract worth $2.814 million. The Seahawks locked up P Jon Ryan with a new deal at the end of the 2009 season.
Mare turned his '09 campaign around after a very shaky effort against the Bears in Week Three. After that game, former head coach Jim Mora publicly ripped Mare, calling the performance "unacceptable." Mare went on to convert 19-of-19 FG opportunities the rest of the season.
