As had been rumored for some time, the Raiders on Wednesday put the franchise tag on DE Richard Seymour. The two sides have been discussing a long-term deal, but if none results, Seymour would play the 2010 season at a cost of $12.398 million.
Seymour, who will be entering his 10th NFL season in the fall, played in all 16 games in ’09, his first season in Oakland, finishing with 47 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble.
The 30-year-old was acquired by Oakland in a trade with New England one week before the ’09 season began. The Raiders gave up their 2011 first-round draft choice to New England in order to get the five-time Pro Bowler.
