DE Jared DeVries asked the Lions for his release to get a head start on free agency, and the Lions gave it to him. But they say they would like him to return.

DeVries, who missed all of last season with an Achilles injury, was due a roster bonus in a couple of weeks and was set to earn a base salary of $1.3 million.

The Lions have said that DeVries’ rehab has gone well and that they would be open to the idea of him returning.

DeVries now can be signed by any team prior to the official start of free agency on March 5.
