There were mixed reports last week regarding the Saints' plan for FS Darren Sharper, who will become an unrestricted free agent March 5.

The most recent report, which came from ESPN, indicates the team will not use the franchise tag on Sharper before the February 25 deadline for applying it. Sharper, who matched a career high by making nine interceptions last season, will hit the open market unless he agrees on a contract extension with New Orleans before March 5.

Using the tag on Sharper could have cost the Saints $6.455 million in 2010.
