The Cardinals have announced that Donnie Henderson has been named the team’s new defensive backs coach replacing Teryl Austin, who left to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida.

Henderson comes to the Cardinals with 26 years of coaching experience, including nine seasons as an NFL assistant with Jacksonville (2008), Detroit (2006), N.Y. Jets (2004-05) and Baltimore (1999-2003).

Henderson spent the 2008 season as defensive backs coach with Jacksonville after working as a consultant to Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in ’07. He was the Lions’ defensive coordinator for one season (2006) after spending two years as defensive coordinator with the Jets (2004-05), where his defense improved from 21st in the NFL to 7th in total defense after his first season.
